Attitudes to infrastructure

The 1911 rail line between Hong Kong (“Special Administrative Region”) and the rest of China is overloaded. There are no realistic alignments for a high-speed line. In most countries, that would be the end of the matter. But not in China. If there is no space in Hong Kong, then the line will simply avoid Hong Kong. The entire line (approved last year) will run in tunnel to the border with Shenzen. Travel time to Guangzhou will be halved to 50 minutes (and Guangzhou Station is new too). Infrastructure is never “too expensive”, it is either approved or not approved.
